“It is a passion for the visual arts
that inspires my creativity.”
Resumé
Environmental Landscapes, an ongoing series of acrylic landscape paintings on canvas;
Celebration of Dance, an ongoing series of acrylic figurative work on watercolor paper and canvas.
My first professional emergence into the art market came while living in San Francisco in the 1970's. I was visually stimulated by my fascination with the Victorian homes that dominated the city. My painting focused on the inspirational architecture and gingerbread fluff of those "painted ladies." My primary influences at this time were the artistic works of American iconic painter, Edward Hopper and local figurative artist Eleanor Dickinson.
After moving to Arizona, the content of my work changed. I made a decision to pursue an MFA degree from Arizona State University. During this period I began to combine my love of sewing and fabric with my love of painting, developing a unique style of two and three dimensional acrylic paintings. There was a market for the work in the mid 1970's in both corporate and residential environments. I opted for a Masters Degree in Art Education and designed and painted for the commercial market.
The focus of my masters thesis was the business of art. I began to give workshops and developed and taught credit classes for Maricopa Community Colleges and Arizona State University. The content of my work changed from commercial to a more personal style of painting influenced by my study and practice of Chinese Medical Theory. The juxtaposition of yin and yang and the movement of energy within the meridians of the body and environmental elements provide the impetus for continued exploration of interpretation through the use of paint on canvas, board and paper.
